The best part about a kitchen is that we can always improve it with just a few inexpensive simple builds. Our current kitchen is a mess, it is a government kitchen, built to Japanese standards because we are stationed in Okinawa, Japan at the moment.

The cabinets are hung too high and are too small. The countertop is made of stainless steel, and the backsplash is a baby blue for crying out loud. It’s hopeless, I am still not comfortable sharing this kitchen on the blog, but I am going to try my best to improve it.

First up is Abby’s tilt-out trash cabinet from justagirlandherblog.com. This is certainly a great project if you want to keep your kitchen looking nice and clean without any distractions of a trash can. Painting the cabinet the same color as your existing kitchen cabinets will make it blend in nicely.

I also love the pullout baking sheet drawer from Megan over at TwoFeetFirst.com. This project is simple and comes in very handy.

Jenn from Build-basic.com made this super handy cookbook stand, what a fun and creative project. I love this build mainly because it’s easy and affordable to make.

Ana-White, my go-to website when I need something build that is easy, fast, and well explained. The Wooded Bin is absolutely a must build project. It can be used to store potatoes, onions and apples or other fruit or veggies.

Katie from Addicted 2 DIY made the Rustic X Back Step Stool. I wanted to purchase one of these from Ikea, but they were always sold out when I looked for them. This little build is just what I need since I can’t reach the upper cabinets without climbing on top of my counters (yeah, go ahead and picture that!).

Kitchen islands are a great essential when you don’t have much countertop space to prep your meals, I always wanted a kitchen island. The Rustic Reclaimed Wood Island from Heidi of krusesworkshop is super cute and small, but big enough for a tiny kitchen.

How about this gorgeous Kitchen BookShelf from craftsmandrive.com. Being able to repurpose old shutters into a Bookshelf is a pure talent. I love the look of this shelving unit and would love to try making one.

Now Ronique from stagetecture.com created this mindblowing, but easy Custom Spice Rack Drawer Organizer which I am giving a thumbs up. Organizing a kitchen space with simple tricks like Ronique’s will save you time and space. We all have spices, some of us have more or less but I am pretty sure we all are looking for a creative way to tuck them away when not in use.

Industrial Pipe Shelving Unit must be one of the most popular organizing solutions. Roeshel from diyshowoff.com created her open pantry to provide her family with more storage. I LOVE her shelving and put this project on my list for when we return to the states.

Our last project for today is the Wine Rack from Audra at thekurtzcorner.com. If you are a wine drinker, this project is for you. You don’t necessarily have to use palettes for it, just a few boards and you have yourself a nice wine rack that is not just practical but also looks very nice.
